This confrontational piece of art consists of a special bone-like composite, covered with more than ten thousand crystals.
The severed limb symbolizes detachment from critical faculties. The viewer is confronted with the existential dangers of a socio-political environment where kneejerk reactions masquerade as decisiveness, while careful deliberation is done away with as elitism. In the twitchy fingers of uniformed social media users, any Smartphone is a potential grenade waiting to explode in public discourse.
About the artist
LJB was born into the broken home of a Dutch mother and Caribbean father in 1970. Her early childhood was marked by violence and poverty, from which she often fled by constructing an alternative reality.
After having been a performance artist and professional dancer for over two decades, LJB has turned her attention to contemporary craft art.
She is currently building a portfolio that explores perceived reality as a coping mechanism; a comforting derivative of the raw, unbearable reality that really guides our lives. Only a thin veneer of perceptual glitter and glamour makes life’s complexity, meaninglessness and fear of impending death somewhat tolerable.
