This wonderful property, overlooking the Scheto valley and with spectacular views over vineyards and olive groves, consists of two buildings wit a mix of Tuscan stones and plaster. The farmhouse, in need of renovation, on the ground floor houses dining and living areas, the kitchen and a bathroom, as well as the beautiful outdoor loggia. On the mezzanine floor is a bedroom, a bathroom and a study. On the first floor there are four bedrooms with two bathrooms, as well as a second kitchen and a dining-living area. On the third floor, is the dovecote, where the ninth floor is located. In the basement there is a cellar divided into two rooms. The barn, currently a ruin, is developed on one floor, with the possibility of obtaining an additional floor given the large heights. The beautiful garden, which enjoys an open view that allows you to admire breathtaking sunsets, also has a large loggia. The entrance to the house has a beautiful terrace from where it is possible to admire the historic centre of Barberino Val d’Elsa and the dome of San Michele Arcangelo. The property offers also the possibility of building a swimming pool. The surrounding olive groves are part of the property and, if interested, it is also possible to purchase the surrounding vineyards. From the property, a pleasant path leads to a stream, famous for ‘le briglie di Leonardo’, a system of sluice gates with calibrated mouths whose function was to regulate the descent of the Agliena stream, studied by the genius Leonardo da Vinci.
The property is located in the municipality of Barberino Tavarnelle and stands dominant on the hill of the Scheto valley. Even the great genius Leonardo da Vinci went to the Scheto valley, as reported in some drawings in the Hammer codex, now in the British Museum in London, to study the regimentation of rainwater: the famous ‘briglie di Leonardo’, a system of calibrated-mouth sluices with the function of regimenting the descent of the Agliena torrent, which can be easily reached by a pleasant path from the property. Both the Blessed Davanzato, protector of Barberino, but also the Barberini family, i.e. the ancestors of Pope Urban VIII, came from this valley, and it was in this very farmhouse that Pope Urban VIII was born and lived (in fact, the heraldic coat of arms of the noble family is still affixed to the building). Whoever buys this farm also buys its history. The property is reached by approximately 1.0 km of unpaved road, which is however maintained in good condition. It is located about 1.5 km from the centre of Tavarnelle Val di Pesa and Barberino Val d’Elsa, a medieval village inhabited by locals. Within a few minutes’ drive you can find restaurants, bars, supermarkets, shops, pharmacies, banks, post office and all essential services. The property is surrounded by vineyards, olive groves and woods typical of the Chianti area. In the immediate vicinity are the renowned Chianti wine cellars and the medieval villages of San Gimignano, Castellina in Chianti and Monteriggioni. Siena is about 30 minutes by car, Florence about 25 minutes; the two cities are easily reached via the Florence-Siena motorway, which is about 7 km away. Florence airport is about 30 minutes away, Pisa airport about an hour and a quarter and Rome Fiumicino airport about 2 and a half hours.
