Perched atop its own hill in the UNESCO-protected Monferrato hills, Monastero Winery enjoys breathtaking 360-degree views from 220 to 280 metres above sea level. This enchanting estate, centred on a historic monastery with a bell dating back to 1683, blends the tranquillity of rural Italy with exceptional connectivity.

Located only 1 hour and 20 minutes from Malpensa Airport, it offers rare panoramic views stretching as far as the Alps on a clear day.
The property has approximately 70 rooms if everything is included, with a total area of 1,466 m² on 4 levels. The main house has 4 separate living units, each with kitchen and bathroom, for a total of 10 air-conditioned rooms with 30 beds.
In addition to its history as a Catholic monastery, the estate has also been a restaurant and hotel. Previous owners include the esteemed family of Nobel Prize winner Rita Levi-Montalcini.

DESCRIPTION OF THE BUILDINGS

The main villa, which includes the original cellar, restaurant and crypt, together with the old church converted into a garage, has been meticulously restored:
Basement: with internal access from the west side of the farmhouse, the 250 m2 cellar with infernòt; with external access storage rooms and service toilets
Ground floor: separate area with laundry and 1 bathroom. Entrance, 52 sqm banquet room and 60 sqm portico room, courtesy bathroom, professional kitchen, technical room and storage rooms

First floor: 2 double bedrooms with en-suite, 2 twin bedrooms, 1 bathroom, 1 wardrobe room, 1 laundry room

The estate is divided into two sides.
East side:
Flat 1 sq m 120: on two levels with living room and kitchen on the ground floor, 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom and cloakroom on the first floor
Flat 2 sq m 86: on two levels with living room and kitchen on the ground floor, 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom on the first floor
West side:
On the ground floor we find the entrance hall, banqueting room of 52 sqm and porch room of 60 sqm, courtesy bathroom, professional kitchen, technical room and storerooms
On the first floor, on the other hand, there is flat 3, 130 sqm, with living room with fireplace and open kitchen, 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom.
The estate also has a modern wine cellar, a lively pool area with bar, courtyard and terraces, as well as various service buildings, including a barbecue hut and a light storage building near the lake.
The building structure was completely renovated from 2000 to 2004.

High-quality, locally sourced materials were used, such as handmade terracotta tiles for the floors, antique salvaged tiles and organic lime for the walls and partitions. The building’s original components have been carefully restored, preserving their historical charm. Architectural elements were rediscovered and restored, such as a previously hidden sundial on the façade of the main building and an underground tunnel leading to a cave carved into the tuff, now used to age the farm’s best wines.

From 2014 to 2017, further significant improvements were made, e.g. the roof of the new cellar building was transformed into a large terrace, offering a spectacular view, and a bar was added to the pool area.

OUTDOORS AND WINE PRODUCTION

The 13.7 hectares of the estate comprise a unique mix of vine fields, hazelnut groves, woods and a panoramic lake. The soil, rich in Pliocene Asti sands and Lugagnano clay, is very suitable for growing vines. The estate’s agriculture is optimised with 4.6 hectares dedicated to vine fields, carefully combined with plant varieties on the basis of accurate soil analyses. Renovation of the vineyards began in 2006, with significant phases from 2016 to 2018 that optimised the compatibility of grape varieties with the soil and changed the vineyard structure from vertical to horizontal rows, increasing spacing to reduce disease and improve vine health. Since 2019, the entire estate has been certified organic.
The estate boasts a high biodiversity, with many trees and a forest that are home to herons, eagles, wild boars, otters, deer, foxes, wild rabbits, hares and many different insects and birds.

Over four hectares of the estate are organic vineyards of Nebbiolo, Grignolino, Arneis, Barbera and Sauvignon Blanc that can produce up to 40,000 bottles.

Winemaking is currently outsourced to the Barolo area as the harvested grapes are transported to the external facility and then brought back to Monastero Winery in the form of finished bottles. Production can be brought back on site to the new winery, requiring an investment in additional wine-making equipment.

Riccardo and Marta met during their high school years. Since then, their paths have never parted. United by shared dreams and aspirations, they married in 1999 and are today parents of three children. In 2004, driven by their passion for their native land, art, and beauty, they chose the historic heart of Tuscany – the charming village of Anghiari – as the birthplace of a project that already carried the warmth of home: Romolini Immobiliare. A story founded on courage, dedication, and profound values that, paired with their vision, quickly earned them recognition within both the national and international real estate markets. In 2008, an important achievement further strengthened their reputation: Romolini Immobiliare was appointed exclusive affiliate of Christie’s International Real Estate, the world’s most prestigious name in luxury real estate – a testament to their authenticity and unwavering commitment. Romolini, however, is more than a business: it is a family. Those who have joined Riccardo and Marta in this endeavor were welcomed for their human qualities, integrity, and outstanding professionalism, becoming not just exceptional team members, but part of a greater family. Each brings a unique approach, a personal style, and a shared dedication to the values that have always defined Romolini. In 2020, Danilo, their eldest son, chose to join the company. Having grown up amid the dreams and challenges of the family business, he brought a visionary spirit and a profound love for beauty. Danilo pioneered a new way of presenting properties in Italy, creating emotional and engaging video narratives that captivate and inspire. With his contribution, Romolini Immobiliare embraced a new chapter. A refined approach to communication, an even greater attention to detail, and a client-centered philosophy have established the company as a leading figure in the luxury real estate sector. Romolini is not just a name. It is a legacy. It is a family dream brought to life. It is a journey that moves forward with passion and purpose.
