The SLS AMG is a front-engine limited edition car produced by Mercedes-AMG. Moreover this model was the first in- house design by AMG. Meaning that the car was designed and built from a scratch completely by AMG. The car’s design is strongly inspired by the 1950s 300 SL. They share the gullwing-doors, the side vents and even the SLS’s brake light is positioned where the 300 SL has a rear vent. SLS is the short version of “sport light super”. Revealed to the public in 2009 during the Frankfurt Motor Show. Sales of the car started in mid- 2010 in Europe and a year later in the United States. Moreover, Mercedes also introduced an electric version of the car and a “Black Series” which is a more track focused version of the SLS AMG. Other Black Series models exist of the CLK63 AMG, C63 AMG and SL65 AMG. Production of the SLS AMG ended in early 2014 with the SLS AMG GT final edition. The SLS AMG accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 3.7 seconds and has a top speed of 317 km/h.
