Designed in 1965 by Piero Castagnero, who was inspired by the Riva motorboat, the Fulvia Coupé was a 2 plus 2-seater sports berlinetta, with an elegant appearance, refined finishes and sporty performance.
It was in the second half of the 1960s that Cesare Fiorio, Head of the Lancia Racing Department, despite the limited financial resources available, obtained the approval from Fiat to develop the 1300 HF in favor of a sports model with increased performance.
Thus saw the light at the 1968 Turin Motor Show, the new Rallye 1.6 HF with 120 HP of power, 5-speed gearbox, racing set-up, direct steering and alloy wheels with oversized tires.
The latest addition followed the path traced by the previous 1.3 versions and it differed little from them, but with an immediately distinctive element, the two large central front headlights that earned it the nickname "fanalone".
Fiorio & C. succeeded in the enterprise and the result of many efforts would have been the conquest of the 1972 International Rally Championship with Sandro Munari.
