1994 Hummer H1 Convertible
Desert Storm brought us into the battlefield with the nearly live action TV coverage that was available on cable news. During said coverage, the general public and in particular car aficionados took notice of these go everywhere vehicles our troops were using known as the Humvee. Their fascination led to a trend where AM General corporation which supplied the M998 Humvee to the military got the brainchild idea to make these trucks available to the public, and this became the Hummer line produced in their Mishawaka, Indiana facility.
For consignment a Hummer H1 civilian go anywhere, an onboard compressor, 4 door with small rear cargo bed, wide stance, go into 3 feet of water, convertible version of the H1 Hummer from 1994. This one is ceramic coated, has a 12,000 lb WARN winch, and Rhino lined cargo bed. 3 yes count 'em... 3 roll bars for structural support and passenger safety. Time to go crush something!
A 14-inch ground clearance, and wide track stance that would make any vintage Pontiac green with envy, this big boy toy 4x4 is bathed in High Gloss Red, and ceramic coated to keep the gleam. A protective crash bar protects the grille and sports cargo sling lift D rings on front and rear. A flat perfectly vertical front split windshield sits neatly behind the vented hood, and all body panels are straight and minding their gaps. This truck is equipped with a fording kit up to the bottom of the door windows which allows the user to travel through 3 feet of water. A tough canvas convertible top in tan color, which the consigner states is new, has new window inserts to go with it. A canvas cover to match the top, covers the rear bed which is also Rhino lined in red finish. A large rear bumper with a towing package is affixed in black. CTIS (central tire inflation system) has an onboard air inflation compressor. Tires are "Super Swamper" for excellent off-road travel in mud, snow or sand. Forward march!
A swing of the water sealed doors reveals a large molded panel with a power door lock and door actuator together inserted into the front of the door. A large pouch is available for extra storage and is adhered to each door. Inside beautiful two-tone red tuck and roll inserted vinyl panels blend with outer smooth black bolsters and create the utilitarian yet comfortable seats. The back has dual buckets, and front and back flank a massive wide center console. The console, which is set up much like an 18-wheel tractor, has multi levels, inserted heat and cool fan controllers, and a JVC Cassette radio. Other gauges are also seen on this large console, and the shift lever, 4x4 modes, and numerous cup holders are also molded in. A black dash houses the instrumentation, as well as all the toggles for lighting and wipers etc. Just like the big rigs inside here! Nice clean tan carpet floods the floors and a nice tight tan headliner is above. And lest we forget the 3 bar roll bar system, all wrapped in tan vinyl which is padded. Plenty of protection for the interior passengers above.
A 6.5 Liter Turbo diesel powers through nearly anything mother earth can throw at you. It has EFI and a 4L80E 4-speed automatic transmission. A 5.24 final drive ratio drives the wheels, along with the sturdy 4x4 transfer case with no leaks or drips. This big diesel mill sits back in a clean engine bay and allows for better weight distribution...gosh the military thinks of everything!! Left...Left...Left Right Left!
Solid as it should be, mostly surface rust free with 4-wheel independent coil sprung suspension, and 4 wheel power disc brakes. Used but definitely never abused can sum it up underneath. Ten HUT!
Classic Auto Mall has had the pleasure of hosting many of this consigner's collection, and this truck is awesome. It is 4x4 on steroids firing right up, and that big diesel humming along gives you the feeling of a go anywhere sound. We do not have a beach, or a mountain, or even a stream to wade her into, but mechanically is very sound, and drove nicely with the two tone seats and all those big rig sequence controls giving this writer a feeling of power...Sir...yes Sir!! Oh and A/C blows cold...SIR!
A nicely cared for all over vehicle, big diesel power, 4x4 to its best performance, a wide track, and big knobbies with an onboard compressor, two tone interior seating, and an auxiliary rear seat to seat 4 if you have more friends that want to get their groove on. "Climb every mountain!"
