1973 FERRARI DINO 246 GT RHD BY SCAGLIETTI
DATE OF MANUFACTURE: 1973 | COLOUR: RED | INTERIOR TRIM: BLACK LEATHER | PRICE: POA
WE ARE DELIGHTED TO OFFER THIS EXCEPTIONAL FERRARI 246 GT COUPE ICONIC V6-ENGINED DINO, ONE OF THE FINAL ”E” SERIES, MATCHING NUMBERS, SINGLE-FAMILY OWNERSHIP FOR OVER 35 YEARS WITH EXCEPTIONAL EARLY HISTORY
MODEL HISTORY
The 246 GT was a 2.4-litre version of the earlier 2.0 litre 206 GT which it replaced in late 1969 on a longer wheelbase. Built by Scaglietti, the body was now steel and the cylinder block cast-iron rather than aluminum, but the bigger engine’s increased power - 195bhp at 7,600rpm - adequately compensated for the weight gain. A Targa-top version, the 246 GTS, followed in 1972. The Dino 246 was built in three series: ’L’, ’M’ and ’E’, these designations reflecting detail changes in the specification.
Of the three, the M-series is by far the rarest, being produced during the early months of 1971 only. Changes from the preceding L-series included a 30mm increase in rear track; five-bolt fixing for the road wheels; internal boot release; seat-mounted headrests; and various minor improvements to the engine and gearbox. The final ’E’ series incorporated all the changes made to its predecessors together with further improvements to the engine and gearbox and numerous other more minor details.
THIS VEHICLE
One of the final 246’s, the E-Series car offered here and presented in our showroom is an original UK right hand drive delivered Dino with numbers matching (except colour). Originally presented in white, it later had an exterior colour change to red ”Rosso Corsa”. It has been in the same family ownership from 1983 to 2018 when our client purchased for his collection. It has remained in our showroom and used occasionally.
With five previous documented owners, this vehicle comes with an impressive early and late history file. Showing a lovely patina, it can be used as-is, or as a basis for a concours rebuild should the new owner wish to. Documentation includes Grapaul & Pegasus Motors, service invoices & MOT’s dating back to 1978 and later years service by a former Graypaul mechanic.
This vehicle will represent a good acquisition opportunity for a collector, investor or first-time classic car buyer, as being a most desirable model reminiscent of the much valued V-12 Ferraris.
The vehicle is available for viewing at our showroom in the UK near Stansted Airport on an appointment basis.
