Wentorf bei Hamburg, Germany
52000 km (32311 mi)
360 ps (268 kw)
One of just 929 Ferrari 512 BB desirable carburetor versions.
Very good overall condition – well maintained and looked after throughout its life.
Delivered new in Germany via Auto Koenig on March 16, 1981 to its first German owner. The second owner sold it to the current owner family in August 14, 1987. It has stayed in Germany throughout its life and in the same family for almost 33 years now!
The car comes with books and tools, its period radio (Becker Mexico), Ferrari space saver spare wheel, Ferrari car and seat cover.
In the years 1995-2000, various chassis and engine bay restorations were carried out by the current owner and accompanied by Ferrari workshop ROTHE Automobile in Hamburg.
A major technical service of the engine, carburetors and replacement of the timing belts was carried out at a German Ferrari specialist in 2014.
The original Ferrari magnesium wheels were restored in 2018.
The car has only been driven in summer since 1987 and never in the rain.
It comes with an extensive history file including invoices of technical inspections and services from 1986 to today – showing the odometer reading corresponds with the actual mileage.
We believe that a large part of the body has never been resprayed and its paintwork still original – as is the vehicle’s interior.
The car was among the last BB.s made – delivery in 1981. It has already some of the features of the successor BBi – among those the BBi style rear bumper with integrated foglights. Only a handful of cars were made in this style at the end of the 512BB’s production run.
The narrow front grill with exposed driving lights is a market specific feature (German law required this at the time).
Very rare in this highly original condition and with this kind of history – definitely a collector’s item.
The 512 BB was the first redesign of the Berlinetta Boxer series. It featured an engine with increased capacity and more low-rev torque compared with the outgoing 365BB model. Minor styling modifications included the slightly longer engine cover and dual instead of triple taillights and exhaust pipes. The sound of its quad Weber carbureted engine is far more exciting than that of the later BBi injection models.
