A "first class drivers car" . The LAST "ENZO ERA" car, Ferrari's 365 GTB/4 "Daytona"(chassis type 605), with its angular wedge profile, Kamm tail and powerful (type 251) V-12 engine, provided Ferrari the title "Worlds fastest production car" for a 16 year period (longer than any modern post WW2 car).
Enzo Ferrari's original production approval was for a Perspex lens covering quad headlights, Svelt....Aerodynamic. The much more common retractable headlight front end was NOT an evolution but a compromise. Always intending to sell the "Daytona" in the United States, Ferrari changed the front end design to comply with new United States Federal regulations (headlight level was to low) to allow sale of the model in the United States. All "Daytona's"(but a very few) sold in the United states were retractable headlight versions. "Plexiglass Daytona's" are few and far in between in the United States.
Although there were only 6 verified factory "Alloy Body" "Daytona's" produced (5 competition cars and only 1 road car), all "Plexiglass Daytona's" have alloy hood, trunk, and door skins.
In authentic condition, all but a few "Plexiglass Daytona's" (which have Euro-spec. engine set ups) have more horsepower/torque than their retractable headlight siblings because of changes required to meet United States Standards. The plexiglass front, having the benefit of being more aerodynamic at speed coupled with a Euro-spec. engine set up is a true representation of the "FASTEST PRODUCTION CAR IN THE WORLD" of its era.
This "rare and low mileage" 1970 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 "Plexiglass Daytona" is an authentic European left side drive example equipped with metric gauges, the desirable Euro-spec. engine (fresh air intake, 36mm headers) which flow out a Euro-spec. exhaust.
Utilizing a front engine with rear transaxle (transmission/differential) with positraction, provides an almost 50/50 weight distribution (52/48) between the front and rear of the car.
Four wheel independent suspension featuring "A" arms with "coil over" shock absorbers and excellent brakes allows this sophisticated cars performance to be exciting, even by today's standards.
This Red Car with Black interior,~~~~Ferrari Classiche Certified~~~~ with Red Book, was last purchased on 8-9-1990 from Florida with 25,300 km (15,711 miles). Shortly thereafter, the car went through an extensive restoration organized by an early member of the "Ferrari Owners Club". Approximately 320 km (200 miles) have been driven since completed.
This car is fitted with air conditioning, power windows and a Talbot side view mirror. Also now wider Cromodora 9" rear wheels and a Momo steering wheel.
This car has been serviced, runs and drives well.
