The Ferrari 275 was unveiled at the 1964 Paris Salon in two different body styles; a convertible by Pininfarina, the GTS, which was comparatively squarer and more traditional to the Scaglietti-built GTB, whose design had the hallmarks of a road-going version of the 250 GTO.
Together they both had the 3286cc two cam Colombo engine (a bored-out form of the 250 GTO’s) and three Weber carburettors as standard. The GTS could muster 260bhp and the GTB could achieve 280bhp at 7600rpm. This model also was the first to enjoy all-round independent suspension, a 5-speed transaxle plus, also, optional alloy wheels inspired by those on Surtees’ Type 156 F1 car that he won the ’63 Championship with.
In the region of 450 ‘single-cam’ (a cam per bank, so two, really) GTBs were produced during 1964-66, but in in two halves. The first series of cars, 250 in all, had the ‘short-nose’, with the later cars having the ‘long-nose’ design. It is from the first series of short nose cars that the example we offer was produced.
#7371 was delivered o Texas in 1965, in Rosso Chiaro paint and Nero leather. It had a colour change in its early life to Giallo, and for a large period of its life it was in the possession of the Parker Pen Co. family, in the USA.
After it was brought back to the UK some three years ago, in a dismantled condition, it was sent straight for restoration at Wildae Restorations, one of the UK’s leading restoration specialists. After some 4000 hours of work, the car was completed in 2017, finished in Nero paint over Rosso leather.
The car is fully matching numbers and it recently has been awarded full Ferrari Classiche certification. A leather bound album of the car and its restoration will also be sold with the car.
One of the most beautiful cars ever made and designed to resemble the famous GTO, the 275 GTB represents everything a Ferrari GT should; a long nose, low cabin, short tail and a fast, race derived, engine to supplement the 5-speed transaxle and Kamm tail. Therefore, considering the quality of our example, it really is not to be missed. Call us today.
